Pay yourself first. Before bills, before anything else, move a set amount to savings or investing the moment the deposit lands.

Contribute to TSP. At minimum, enough to get the full government match. That's money you're otherwise leaving on the table.

Check your emergency fund. If it's not fully funded yet, this paycheck's savings transfer goes there first, before anything else.

Run through your budget. Not a full rebuild every payday, just a quick check that nothing's drifted since the last one.

Handle debt payments. Automate them if you haven't, so a busy drill weekend or deployment never turns into a missed payment.

Keep learning. A portion of every paycheck, even a small one, into books, courses, or resources that make the next financial decision easier.

Set aside guilt-free fun money. A budget that leaves zero room for enjoyment doesn't survive contact with real life. Plan for it on purpose instead of letting it happen as an afterthought.

Doing all seven takes ten minutes. Skipping them costs a lot more than ten minutes down the line.
