Hitting a real savings milestone, whatever the number is for you, usually comes down to the same handful of decisions repeated for a long time, not one clever trick.

Automate the transfer before you see the money. Every post on this blog says some version of this because it's the single highest-leverage habit available.

Track where the money's actually going. Most people underestimate their own spending by a wide margin until they actually track it for a month.

Cut the handful of categories that don't matter to you, and keep the ones that do. A milestone isn't built by cutting everything, it's built by cutting selectively and consistently.

Increase the savings rate every time your income increases. Don't let a raise disappear into lifestyle upgrades before it touches your savings rate.

Give it real time. A meaningful savings milestone is almost never a fast result. It's a slow, boring, repeated decision that eventually adds up to a number that looks impressive from the outside.

The account balance is the visible result. The habit underneath it is the actual story.
